Clanton runs wild as SFMS rolls past Gibson County

Kade Clanton turned in a dominant performance on the ground Thurs., Aug. 20, rushing for 241 yards and four touchdowns as South Fulton raced past Gibson County 34-6 to remain unbeaten.
The Red Devils improved to 2-0 on the season with a balanced offensive attack and a defense that kept Gibson County off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter.
Clanton wasted little time making his presence felt. He broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to put South Fulton ahead 6-0. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
Clanton struck again later in the opening quarter, ripping off a 49-yard touchdown run. Holden Crabtree converted the ensuing two-point attempt to give the Red Devils a 14-0 advantage.
South Fulton continued to pull away in the second quarter.
Clanton added his third touchdown on a 72-yard run, pushing his rushing total into triple digits before halftime. The two-point attempt failed.
He wasn't finished.
Clanton found the end zone for the fourth time on a 15-yard touchdown run, with Crabtree adding another successful two-point conversion as South Fulton took a commanding 28-0 lead into halftime.
The Red Devils added to their advantage in the third quarter when Abe Morris scored on a 9-yard touchdown run. The two-point try was unsuccessful, leaving South Fulton with a 34-0 lead.
Gibson County finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass, but the Red Devils' defense had already done its job as South Fulton cruised to the 34-6 victory.
Clanton led the South Fulton rushing attack with 241 yards on just eight carries, averaging more than 30 yards per carry. Gavin Goldbeck added 80 yards on 13 carries, while Crabtree rushed for 36 yards on six carries and Morris contributed 40 yards on three attempts.
Clanton also led the defense with five tackles. Morris recorded four tackles, while Evan Mohr and Mason McDonald each finished with three.
South Fulton will return to their home turf Thurs., Aug. 27 looking to keep its perfect start alive, as they host Ballard County.
