AREA OBITUARIES -- W.C. "NIG" MATTHEWS

Mr. W.C. "Nig" Matthews, age 81, of South Fulton, Tenn. passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at his residence.

He was born on June 14, 1943 in Fulton, Ky. to the late Lawrence Matthews and Gertie Hardy Matthews.

W.C. was a member of Johnson Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a United States Navy veteran where he served in the Cuban Crisis. Mr. Matthews worked for McKinney Construction as a carpenter and lived all of his life in this area.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Rushing Matthews, two daughters; Kim (Donnie) Clapper of South Fulton, Tenn. and Kelly Davis of Drummonds, Tenn., five grandchildren; Shawn Cory (Heather) White of Union City, Tenn., Kelsey Davis of Chattanooga, Tenn., Katie (Jacob) Hobbs of South Fulton, Tenn., Jake (Maggie) Clapper of South Fulton, Tenn., Will Clapper of South Fulton, Tenn., and four great-grandchildren, Carter, Cade and Malaya White, all of Union City, Tenn., and Cloee Clapper, of South Fulton, Tenn.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. W.C. Matthews will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Hornbeak Funeral Home funeral chapel with burial to follow in the Johnson Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 AM Tuesday until the hour of service.
