KYTC Crews Prep Roads for Winter Weather, Repair Potholes and Pre-Treat Highways Across District 1
Be alert for mobile pothole patching caravan along Interstate 24
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2025) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) crews across District 1 will be out today working to prepare roads ahead of the next winter weather event, expected to arrive as soon as Tuesday night.Highway maintenance crews will work to repair potholes, which formed after heavy rains and flooding this weekend, using a specialized fast-setting concrete.In addition, a mobile pothole patching caravan will be active along Interstate 24 in McCracken County today.Motorists should be alert for trucks with arrow boards guiding traffic to shift lanes to allow for the work. Motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach this mobile work caravan between the 17 mile marker and mile point 0.0 at the I-24 Ohio River Bridge.Drivers should exercise caution near equipment, flaggers, and maintenance crews working along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.District 1 crews will also begin pre-treating state highways today in preparation for Tuesday’s snowfall. Motorists should be aware of brine spray trucks and support vehicles on the roads.Numerous roads across the district remain closed due to flooding. An updated District 1 High Water Report, highlighting any overnight closure changes, will be released this morning.Drivers venturing out today should reduce speed and use caution. Remember, never drive through a flooded roadway — turn around, don’t drown.A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for all District 1 counties. While forecasts may evolve, the National Weather Service predicts snow will begin Tuesday night, with possible accumulations of three to six inches across District 1, along with extreme cold temperatures.Motorists are urged to stay updated with local forecasts and be prepared for the potential of rapidly changing driving conditions.
