FULTON FIRE RULED AS ARSON
According to a press release received by The Current, from Fulton Police Chief Allen Poole and Fulton Fire Chief Steven Lang, on Sunday, 10/27/2024, the Fulton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 214 Green Street.
Upon arrival, fire units found a two-story vacant residential structure fully engulfed in flames, threatening a second vacant residential structure at 212 Green Street.
Before firefighting operations could be established, the fire spread to the second structure. The fire caused extensive damage to both structures, resulting in their total loss, and caused significant heat damage to two other neighboring occupied residences.
During the investigation, witnesses reported seeing three juveniles fleeing from 214 Green Street minutes before smoke and flames were visible from the structure.
Based on these reports, the Fulton Police Department initiated a criminal investigation for arson.
While officers were on scene, an adult male informed investigators that he had the suspected juveniles at his
residence, where investigators subsequently interviewed them and obtained a confession.
According to the juveniles' statement, they admitted to igniting paper towels, though they claimed their intent was not to burn down the structure.
The Fulton Fire Department received mutual aid from the South Fulton, Water Valley, Union City, and Martin Fire Departments in extinguishing the fire. Fire units remained on scene for approximately four hours. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the response.
Criminal charges pending against the juveniles include arson and felony criminal mischief.
